Greetings from the beautiful island of St. Thomas! Hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday! The November Wahoo fishing here in the VI has been fast and furious, especially in the latter half of the month. A big cold front combined with snotty weather moved through in the beginning of the month and shut the bite down for a few days, but once it passed the Wahoos started snapping again and we recorded some great action on recent offshore charters both north and south of the island. A few migrating schools of Mahi are starting to pop-up south of the island as well, a noticeably bigger class of fish too, a great sign for the upcoming winter season. And just last week, we got into our first Yellowfins of the fall/winter season. Despite being a smaller class of fish, we found these tunas mixed in with some Mahi under a floating log offshore and our guests got plenty of line-peeling action on our Saragosa/Terez spinning combos.
The inshore scene in November offered plenty of action as well. Flag Yellowtail Snapper seemed to be everywhere this past month and our guests went home with plenty of fresh fillets along with Capt. Alvin’s famous seasoning recipe. Kingfish, Tarpon and Barracuda were also in the mix and we even found a few schools of peanut Mahi chasing ballyhoo in the shallows last week. Young anglers on our Family & Kid’s inshore trips got quite a treat watching these small Mahi’s chomp live-bait and put on an aerial show boatside.
If you’re planning a visit to the island this winter make sure to give Capt. John or I a call and we’ll help plan your fishing experience during your stay. It’s been a great start to the winter season, you can keep up with all the upcoming winter action and reports on our Facebook page:
